Getting Started
POKER: GETTING STARTED GUIDE
The Basics:

Poker games typically feature a forced bet, such as the Big Blind and Small Blind in Hold’em and Omaha. These forced bets comprise the starting pot, providing the first incentive for players to win the hand. Subsequent betting rounds further increase the size of the pot.
Player Actions:

Action moves clockwise around the table. Each player can take one of the following actions:

-- Check: Declining to open the betting. Only possible if no one else has bet in the current round.

-- Bet: Opening the wagering for the round (if no other bets exist).

-- Fold: Forfeiting cards and any interest in the current pot.

-- Call: Matching the highest bet made during the current round to stay in the hand.

-- Raise: Matching the highest bet and then making a greater one. Subsequent players must match this new amount to stay in.
Betting Rounds (Hold’em & Omaha):

These variants feature four distinct betting rounds:

1. Pre-Flop: After hole cards are dealt, but before community cards appear.
2. The Flop: After the first three community cards are dealt.
3. The Turn: After the fourth community card is dealt.
4. The River: After the fifth and final community card is dealt.

Note: Betting continues until every player has matched the bets made or folded.
Showdown:

Once the final round of betting is called, a showdown occurs:

-- Remaining active players must show or "declare" their hands.
-- The player(s) with the best ranking hand(s) win the pot.
-- In some cases, multiple players share a single pot (split pot), depending on hand rankings.
